Embracing Change.
The most successful people in this world are able to foresee, adapt to, and be flexible enough, to embrace the ever present change that affects us all. Whether it occurs with new technological advancements, moving to a different place, reinventing yourself, or accepting the aging process and all that it brings – change is inevitable. Having a positive attitude during that process is the key to ensuring that as you go forth – the change itself creates a metamorphosis where you continue on as a brighter and stronger version of yourself.
Most recently, Greg Glassman, the founder of CrossFit has addressed some significant changes that will be coming to the CrossFit community.  After terminating several Games media related persons, on August 23, 2018, an article was released on the Morning Chalk Up where Greg Glassman indicated that he wants the focus to return to the health of the members and to globalize CrossFit, taking it from 15,000 affiliates to 150,000.
While the CrossFit Open and the Games will remain, the Regionals and the Invitational will be no more.  Further, the Open will be moving to October, and the path to the Games will be different as well, where each country will be crowning a fittest male, female, and team through the Open, and those athletes will receive an invite.  Interestingly, CrossFit is going to be sanctioning 16 Events with other groups from November through June, where the winners will also get an invitation. The Games are going to remain in August. Given the number of athletes that can now qualify the Games will go from 80 to over 300 athletes.  As of yet, the Age group qualifiers and Divisions are still to be determined.
So what do those changes mean for you and I – and all of our members at CF Helo? Well, given the timing of these changes, there will now be two CrossFit Opens in 2019, with one in late February as normal, then the Games, and then another Open in October, which means there will be more Friday Night Lights and fun for us! Also, we are going to be watching more competitions and sanctioned events as they get announced which will hold some surprises for sure! Most significantly, in essence we are going to be, historically, part of a huge change in CrossFit’s growth as a whole, and while one era may be ending so to speak, another is starting and we are excited to be a part of this new and fresh beginning and will seize the opportunity to push through the unknown to become an even better box for all of you in the upcoming season!
For more information about the changes implemented by Greg Glassman, please feel free to read the additional articles as posted on the Morning Chalk Up.
Thanks for reading as always!
Sincerely,
Coach Julia
Attention:  This Saturday morning at 9 a.m. will be the swim wod at Black Ridge Reservoir in Herriman (don’t worry if you can’t swim, you can run through the water instead as we swim at waist level generally and it’s a lot of fun)! It will be the only wod that day so plan on heading out there! We have a sign up on the board and also, there will be a breakfast at Jess and Travis’ house right after the wod as they live right there, where if you can bring a breakfast item to share that would be great!
