Tuesday Night Musings with Coach Kyle.
Why your kids should be doing CrossFit!
Hi Everyone!
Tonight, I wanted to discuss kids doing CrossFit; and why, if you are a parent, you should sign them up.
First of all, kids staying active is important for their health, mindset and overall happiness. Getting kids outside and playing is kind of the point of being a kid. Kids are supposed to do those things.
If you have a child who is more creative and artsy and doesn’t really have an interest in sports or doing physical activities, CrossFit is actually perfect for them; and they probably need it just as much,  if not more than if you have an athletically inclined child. It gives them an opportunity to learn how to move and be athletic safely. CrossFit helps them understand that even though they might not play sports or even like to do physical activities, that no matter who you are, moving and lifting is a part of being human. And CrossFit helps you do these things easier and actually teaches you to enjoy them in a positive environment. CrossFit also helps these kids with their mindset. It teaches them to push themselves through things that are hard and grow by facing challenges. And I don’t know about you other adults out there but one thing that I have learned growing up is that life doesn’t get easier as you get older, and you have got to appreciate the good things when they appear. Life can sometimes try to push you around and you have to keep fighting against it. So why not get your kids involved in something that makes them learn how to do that?
Personally, I’ve noticed a huge difference in how the kids who have been doing CrossFit in the teens class for the last 2 months have mentally benefitted. It happens that quickly! These kids amaze me every day with how they push and fight tooth and nail to keep moving and keep pushing themselves to get better. Now, I think that is one of the most important qualities to fine tune if you want to be successful in life. Similarly, why wouldn’t we sign our kids up for something to help our kids be successful not just within the box but by giving them a skill set to help them excel in life.
Now I know some of you are thinking, “But my kid plays sports and already learns those things through the sports they play.” Well what’s wrong with getting a double-dose?  For those kids who are athletic and love the sports they play, CrossFit will make them stronger, faster, and give them a work ethic and mindset that will separate them from the rest. I started CrossFit when I was 16 and I can honestly say that it helped me bring my game to the next level and gave me the push and drive to be able to earn a scholarship. Now, I’m not saying that CrossFit is the magic pill that will give you everything you want but it definitely gives your kids the tools to work towards what they want.
Physically, CrossFit can do amazing things for an athlete. The strength, agility, and body awareness it teaches transfers over to other sports so well. If you look at how professional athletes train there is a reason why their trainers are training them in a very similar way CrossFit athletes train. And it’s because it works.
Further, emotionally, not only does CrossFit give these kids all these tools and strong mind sets, but it’s fun! One of the keys to being happy is being able to have fun and do fun things! And I know I have fun with these kids and I’ve heard the kids I teach say how much fun certain workouts are. Yes, they have those workouts they see and complain about how hard it’s going to be but that’s part of life not everything is going to be fun. The crazy thing is once they are done a lot of the time they say parts of it were fun and that it was awesome they finished it.
I think CrossFit turns good kids into great kids and it teaches them so many things that apply to life. So if you haven’t already you should definitely be getting your kids into CrossFit! It really is such a great thing for them.
Thanks for reading my Tuesday night musing.
Sincerely,
Coach Kyle
